The company apparently wants to encourage this feeling, and has quietly dropped the gold color option for older iPhone models — reserving it for the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Its online stores (in the US and abroad) no longer offer the gold option for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, or iPhone 5S, and Apple has confirmed to The Verge that the finish is being discontinued for these models.
